If you’ve got international travel plans between now and June 15th, 2021, this sale should be on your radar.
You know I love the Turkish Miles and Smiles program, because I love the one way business class awards for 12,500 – 15,000 miles anywhere in North America.
But Turkish miles, transferable from only Citi ThankYou of the major transferable bank points, are also valuable (in a somewhat odd twist if you know Frequent Flyer Mile Arbitrage) on their own planes. Crazy, I know!
A one way flight to/from Europe is just 45,000 miles with transit in Istanbul and while all but the newest planes have a “fine” hard product, the food and service has a great reputation. With this sale, 31,500 miles will get you to or from Europe to North America.
A one way flight from the US to/from Male in the Maldives is normally 67,500 miles. With this sale, it’s just 47,300 miles.
The main restrictions are that the flights must be on Turkish metal (no codeshares or Star Alliance partners) is that you have to book the flight by December 31, 2020 and fly by June 15th, 2021. Turkish charges only $25 per ticket if you need to cancel. Just note that Turkish miles do expire 3 years from the date earned (or transferred in from Citi ThankYou).
If you call to put the ticket on hold, you’ll have 2-3 days to transfer your Citi ThankYou points in.
And once again, we see the case for Citi ThankYou points. Just the signup bonus alone on a Citi Premier® credit card (60,000 points for $4,000 in spend within 3 months) would get you a round trip to Europe in Business Class on Turkish metal. Admittedly, it’s quite an out of the way route to Europe, depending on where you are going, but if you are headed to Greece, for example, it’s pretty darn perfect.
