While I’m not necessarily advocating redemptions in this manner, more options are always better. If you have your eyes on an Apple product, know you can’t get it discounted anywhere or get points or cash back via a portal (which is the case on the newest items) AND have an excess of Ultimate Rewards points, you might consider this option which is roughly the same as using Pay Yourself Back for Apple (although without earning points for the purchase).
