Hyatt has just released it’s annual list of hotel category changes.
The good news is a full month of warning to book now and it’s also good news they didn’t add a higher category level (so those Category 8’s can’t go any higher!).
The bad news?
The increases seem to sting a lot more than the decreases offset them.
214 hotels will go up in category vs. 158 that will go down.
Hyatt calls out the following: “Several favorites like Stonebridge Inn, a Destination by Hyatt Residence, Thompson Washington D.C., Hyatt Regency Cologne, and Hyatt Place Kyoto will shift down in category. For those planning to use a Category 1-7 Award Night, a call out to reserve ahead of March 28 as nine Hyatt properties will move into Category 8, including Park Hyatt Zurich, Park Hyatt Beaver Creek Resort, Hyatt Centric Key West Resort and Spa, and others.
As the Inclusive Collection, part of World of Hyatt, continues to grow, seven resorts represented on the all-inclusive Award Chart will shift to Category D and one will shift to Category E, representing the first resorts to be included in those respective categories.
Some things to keep in mind:
- When you book before March 28, your reservations will follow the current free night award chart found here.
- Reservations made on or after March 28 will follow the new free night award chart and incorporate the updates noted below.
- Existing reservations for nights on or after March 28 will receive a refund for the point difference if the hotel moved to a lower category”
I have to say, I believe their numbers – but it sure feels like a lot more went up than down. It may well be the ones that went up were more desirable than the ones that went down.
If you are looking to book an all-inclusive, chances are you want to do that now with 8 resorts going up in cost.
Secrets Impression Moxché moves from all inclusive Category C all the way to F. This resort had quickly become an Internet favorite and I suspect people will book this as far out as possible now. That doubles the standard night rate from 25,000 to 50,000 points per night…
As well, MilesTalk group moderators called out several that sting, such as the Alila Marea, Carmel Valley Ranch, Mar Monte (Santa Barbara), the Andaz in Costa Rica and the Andaz in London, Thompson Madrid, Hyatt Centric Dublin, and the Park Hyatts in Vienna and Switzerland.
They noted a few bright spots: The Hyatt Regency in Kyoto went down a category, as did the Thompsons in Denver and Washington DC.
Keep in mind the free night certificates that come with the World of Hyatt Credit Card only go up to Category 4, so while some did drop into certificate range, more left certificate range…
