Capital One Personal Credit Card Eligibility Rules

It was reported today via sites like Thrifty Traveler and Danny Deal Guru, apparently via Travel Freely, that the eligibility rules have changed for all Capital One personal cards.

It’s true: on all Capital One personal credit cards, the early spend bonus offer eligibility rues have changed to a 48 month rule.

The new language states: Existing or previous cardmembers are not eligible for this product if they have received a new cardmember bonus for this product in the past 48 months.

Note that this is per card and not per family. So it’s an important distinction between this and the Chase Sapphire 48 month rule which applies to both cards combined.

So if you have a Capital One Venture X Credit Card, you can still get a bonus on a Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card or even a Capital One VentureOne Rewards Credit Card or Capital One SavorOne Cash Rewards Credit Card.

Note that you still can only get one Capital One card per 6 months and there may be a limit to how many Capital One cards you can have in total, though I have 2 personal and two business cards no problem.

Capital One Business Credit Card Eligibility Rules

But I wanted to call out the Capital One Business credit cards. These cards have not (yet?) updated their bonus eligibility language.

These cards all still say: Existing or previous Accountholders may not be eligible for this one-time bonus.

So you may want to grab a Capital One business card sooner than later.

You could go for a Capital One Spark Miles for Business, offering 50,000 Capital One miles when you spend $4,500 in your first 3 months or a Capital One Spark Cash Plus which is offering up to a $1,000 cash bonus (Earn $500 once you spend $5,000 in the first 3 months, and another $500 once you spend $50,000 in the first 6 months of account opening.)

Even a no annual fee Capital One Spark Cash Select for Excellent Credit is offering $500 when you spend $4,500 in 3 months.

Combine Cash to Miles

Many people forget this, but I’ve written about it multiple times in the past. You can combine Capital One cash back into Capital One Miles.

Meaning that if you earn $500 for spending $4,500 in 3 months on the Capital One Spark Cash Select, and you also have a Venture X, you can send that $500 over to your Venture X where it becomes 50,000 miles (worth at least 50% more as Miles when you transfer to Capital One Transfer Partners.

Let’s have a refresher on those:
