Doctor of Credit has flagged a great opportunity for someone who doesn’t already have Founders Card (like me!) to give it a try for a full year at no cost.
You’ll need to input the code viptrialrun12 to get the free year. Do not submit your application without seeing it verify $0 for a year.
The free trial year does NOT come with many of the benefits that people pick up a Founders Card for normally – like the Caesars Diamond match we use for the Status Match Merry Go Round or Hilton Gold status.
According to the Doctor of Credit post, here’s what you get:
- 5% JetBlue discount
- 20% Silvercar discount
- 10% Getaround discount
- British Airways discount
- Cathay Pacific discount
- Qantas discount
- Singapore Air discount portal
You do not get:
Hilton Gold, Caesars Diamond, the BMW discount, the AT&T discount, the Equinox discount and a few other small things.
I’ve honestly never felt remotely compelled to get a Founders Card. You see a lot of mentions of it in the space, but most of those mentions come with a referral / affiliate link attached. That doesn’t make the recommendation bad, of course, but do your own homework.
If you don’t need Caesars Diamond or Hilton Gold (which comes free with a $95 credit card like the Hilton Surpass anyway).
If you DO need Caesars Diamond, is the $395 a year for Founders Card better than just getting a Wyndham Earner card?
Well, I don’t know – so I’m doing this deal myself to find out. I could see liking and using the JetBlue discount and maybe I’ll give SilverCar a try.
Now, one thing I really don’t like about the Founders Club signup process is that you do have to give a credit card for the free trial, they will automatically charge you in 12 months if you don’t cancel, and you can only cancel by phone/email. Ugh.
So I used a burner credit card from DoNotPay. If I’m happy with the service, I’ll swap in my own card later, but for now, at least I know they can’t actually charge me almost $400 if I don’t want the service.
As an aside, the burner credit card thing that DoNotPay offers is brilliant for any service that you don’t see a need for the service to have your real credit card for – like a free trial!
