Last August, Chase Ultimate Rewards lost Korean Air’s Skypass as a transfer partner.
This was a big blow for Ultimate Rewards points loyalists, as the only way to book Korean Air’s First Class is with Korean Air miles.
When the Chase/UR relationship was ending, many transferred over some miles speculatively so they’d be able to get in one more First Class redemption.
Korean Air Devaluing Award Chart – Becoming Distance Based
If this describes you, you’ll want to make sure you cash those miles in for flights ahead of the April 2021 devaluation that Gary Leff has reported on today. They will introduce a new distance based award charge that will substantially increase the cost of whatever premium redemption you are planning.
On the plus side, they are giving us a crazy long lead time on the devaluation and they will be cutting award prices on shorter routes (similar to how Avios are great for short flights and lousy for longer premium flights).
As always, it’s reminder to earn and burn and not to stockpile miles that will surely be worth less over time.
