For the uninitiated, the Chase Freedom Credit Card is an essential part of what is known as the Chase Trifecta. It earns 5% back on rotating quarterly bonus categories.
The trifecta includes either the Chase Sapphire Preferred or Chase Sapphire Reserve, the Chase Freedom Unlimited, and the Chase Freedom. This gives you the ability to transfer points to airlines and hotels (Preferred / Reserve), the ability to earn 2-3X points on travel and dining (2X with the Preferred and 3X with the Reserve) the ability to earn 1.5X points on non-bonused spend (the Unlimited), and then 5X points on rotating quarterly rotating bonus categories with the Chase Freedom.
In this article
The Chase Freedom quarterly categories for July 1, 2020 – September 30, 2020 are as follows:
5X Chase Ultimate Rewards Points (for up to $1,500 in total spend) on:
- Amazon.com
- Whole Foods
This a a great quarterly category set. Current the Chase Sapphire Reserve earns 5% at grocery stores, and grocery stores were in the 2nd Quarter Freedom bonus categories, but with that all ending June 30th, you’ll be able to
continue to earn 5X Chase Ultimate Rewards points back on grocery spend, although only at Whole Foods.
Amazon is clearly the better bonus category, though. I personally buy everything via Amazon that I can, simply because it’s so easy and quick, especially as a Prime member.
Even if you spend less than $1,500 over 3 months at Amazon, you can buy an Amazon gift card from Amazon.com to use in the future. Or, you can buy 3rd party gift cards from Amazon as well. (Just note you can’t buy an Amazon gift card now and use that to buy a 3rd party gift card later).
For me, this is an easy $1,500 Amazon gift card purchase and I can forget about it….
If you already have the card, just head here to register.
If you don’t, you’ll first need to get the card and then you’ll be able to register.
It’s generally advised to max out the quarterly categories one way or another, as the only other way to earn 5X Chase points is from buying Office Supplies (for instance, gift cards) with the Chase Ink Business Cash.
