Earlier today, I wrote that Delta announced that they would extend elite member status levels for an extra year, in light of the coronavirus and its impact on global travel this year.
United Announces Elite Status Extensions to 2022
According to Gary at View From The Wing, United has already, just hours later, matched. Clearly they had
the plan in place but did not want to be a leader here. Frankly, I’m not surprised Delta led, although I though Alaska would be the next to follow, with American next and United last. I was wrong!
Per Gary, United has announced that your current status level will now expire January 31, 2022.
This is extra welcome news for me as my United Premier Silver status comes by way of Marriott Titanium, which I’m unlikely to renew unless Marriott comes out with a similar extension (I think they will, by the way).
Additionally, United has told Gary that there will be lower elite qualifying thresholds next year and that annual subscriptions for wifi, checked bags, and United Club and EconomyPlus memberships will be extended by six months.
Your move, Alaska and American Airlines (and Marriott!).
PS: My guess is that American will announce the same no later than tomorrow….
