I have to say, when the PR folk at Bilt (the credit card that lets you earn points for paying your rent with no fees) dropped this one into my mailbox, while I was on vacation no less, my mouth dropped.
I’d already been plotting how to get 60 nights with Hyatt this year to get Globalist back.
There are two camps of people – those that LOVE Globalist and those that think it’s way overrated. I’m in the former camp.
We’ve found many Hyatt’s (or SLH, etc) where we want to go, and the suite upgrades (including confirmable ones in advance for up to 7 days when you hit 50 and 60 nights in a year) and the free breakfasts (that are generally true feasts, not meager continental breakfasts, as they are required to offer a main, side, coffee, juice and include the tip as part of the World of Hyatt program).
Anyway, back to Bilt…
Bilt has what they call Rent Day where on the 1st of the month, you earn double points on everything (except, somewhat hilariously, rent ;-)). Past Rent Days have also included extras like a United status challenge and an IHG double points transfer bonus.
In this article
Bilt X Hyatt Explorist / Globalist Status Challenge
This month, they’ve pulled off a true coup – a Hyatt Status Challenge.
In short, you’ll have a 90 day status challenge period (wherein you are granted Explorist status) to earn Explorist status with 10 nights or Globalist status with 20 nights – both through February 2025.
You’ll have to enroll in the Bilt app, of course. While I don’t see why anyone that rents wouldn’t have a Bilt Mastercard for the free points for paying rent, but you can be a Bilt member without having the Mastercard, FYI.
Their terms state:
From today, March 28, through April 1, Bilt members can register to automatically enroll in Explorist status for 90 days, with the ability to keep Explorist status or even upgrade to Globalist status through February 2025.
To Register:
-
Bilt members must join the World of Hyatt loyalty program here if they don’t have an account already
-
Link your Bilt Rewards and World of Hyatt accounts in the Bilt app under the “Travel” tab
-
Between March 28 and April 1, choose “Unlock World of Hyatt Elite Status” on the Rent Day tab in the Bilt app
-
Receive confirmation by April 17 of your World of Hyatt Explorist status and enjoy exclusive benefits for 90 days through July 16
-
Complete 10 qualifying nights between April 17 and July 16 to keep Explorist status through February 2025, or complete 20 qualifying nights to earn Globalist status through February 2025
If you want to pour over every bit of the Terms and Conditions for the program, you can download that here.
Importantly, the terms state that the “member will not receive any Explorist Club Lounge Access Awards or be eligible to tier match into Gold status with MGM Rewards, the loyalty program of MGM Resorts International, as part of the trial.” So, it doesn’t look like this works as a Status Match Merry Go Round™ on-ramp UNLESS you meet the 10 or 20 night qualification. At that point you have full status and could match.
Also, in short, you are not getting any of the bonuses you get for every 10 elite nights, so even if you get Globalist, you still need to “earn” Suite Night Upgrade awards at 50 and 60 nights.
Lastly, you cannot spend your way into these statuses. The terms specifically state:
“Night Credits for Tier-Qualifying Nights awarded or obtained through any means other than a hotel stay (i.e. World of Hyatt Credit Card night credits or World of Hyatt promotional night credits) will not count for this offer.”
Any other questions? I probably answer them in this post clarifying the Hyatt Bonus Journeys and Bilt / Hyatt Fast Track article.
Bilt X Hyatt Parties
They are also having some events to celebrate this partnership – at select Hyatt Hotels.
In Bilt’s words:
“To celebrate, we’ll also be hosting Bilt member-only social events at several Hyatt properties across the country on Rent Day. Attendees will experience Bilt’s favorite Hyatt hotels, be able to chat with a member of Bilt’s staff on all things points, and receive $10 off your tab, on us. A lucky attendee may even win some Bilt points.
All events will take place on Rent Day, April 1st from 5-7PM local time:
-
Hyatt Regency in Sonoma, CA Sonoma Cafe
-
Grayson Hotel in New York, NY Bar Cima
-
Hyatt Centric Buckhead in Atlanta, GA Three Arches
Bilt Members who live in the greater geographic areas of the events will receive an invitation email next week with a link to RSVP for the event.”
You can apply for the Bilt Mastercard here.
