British Airways is out with an offer this morning for 25-50% off all Avios award flights in all cabins.
It seems that long haul international flights are eligible for 50% off whilst intra-EU are 25% off.
British Airways Award Sale – Details
What’s nice about the sale is that it’s all routes and all classes. You can book one way or round trip and you can book any class of service, up to First Class.
You have to book by October 13, 2020 and your travel date simply needs to be by June 30th, 2021. Avios availability is pretty good these days, so there’s a decent shot you can find what you want.
You’ll only be able to book British Airways metal… no Oneworld or partner award flights will be included.
The FEES
I was quoted, for instance, 39,438 Avios + $ 714.89 for a one-way business class flight to Krakow, Poland with a connection at Heathrow. It was available for pretty much any date I wanted next spring.
The Avios part? Pretty great.
The fees? Pretty lousy. Of course, that’s a “feature” of the Avios program, not a problem with this specific promotion. But you always need to be aware of it.
Avios Transfer Partners
If you find a deal you like, you can transfer in from Chase Ultimate Rewards as well as American Express Membership Rewards.
Avios Cancellation Rules
You can change or cancel your flights for a $55 fee. If the taxes were less than that, you can simply forfeit the taxes and get your Avios back.
Is This a Good Deal?
I’d say it’s a great deal if you would be spending Avios anyway. There are much more affordable ways to book British Airways premium cabins using Oneworld partners, but during this sale, you’ll do the best you can if you don’t have access to AsiaMiles or would prefer to spend more in fees and significantly less points.
25-50% Off Avios Sale Terms and Conditions
An Executive Club Member can book between 6 October 2020 and 13 October 2020 for travel between 6 October 2020 and 30 June 2021. The required amount of Avios for Reward Flights across all cabins, including Euro Traveller, World Traveller, World Traveller Plus, Club Europe, Club World and First, will be reduced by up to 50%, with a minimum discount of 25%. Discounts are available on direct one-way and return British Airways operated flights only. The full airline taxes, fees and Carrier charges will apply per person, per flight.
