(Update: If you aren’t seeing the Promotion after linking, please see the end of this post for updated info).
We’ve previously seen reciprocal status challenges (not matches, really, as they aren’t for a full member year unless you meet certain qualifications during a trial period) between American Airlines’ AAdvantage and World of Hyatt.
Today, they’ve announced a new one. It works both ways, meaning that if you have AAdvantage status, you can parlay that into World of Hyatt status and if you have World of Hyatt Status, you can parlay that into AAdvantage status.
I think that AAdvantage Executive Platinum members have the most to gain here, as they’ll be able to earn Hyatt Globalist through February of 2024 with just 20 nights at a Hyatt property. Keep in mind, if you earned Globalist naturally starting in January 2023 (just a month away) you would have it through February 2025 since you get it for the year you earn it and the following year. But even so, this would mean that someone matched over could do that qualification with the comfort of already being a Globalist.
Unfortunately, if you are not Executive Platinum, you can only match to 2nd tier Explorist, which is miles away from Globalist.
If you are Globalist, 4 months of American’s Platinum Pro status is pretty sweet. What is interesting is that a Globalist will get Platinum Pro but can qualify for either Platinum Pro or Executive Platinum based on Loyalty Points earned – with qualification continuing on a rolling 4 month basis for a maximum of a year, as best I can tell. I am sure, though, that won’t disqualify you from qualifying naturally and having that Platinum Pro status to start might just make you keep going. It’s a solid status challenge program!
The press release follows:

NOTE: If you linked your Hyatt and AA accounts and don’t see your offer in the AA Promotions tab, I have some clarification from AA: World of Hyatt members who just linked their World of Hyatt and AA accounts today will not see the offer reflected in their AA promotions tab until December 12th but they have until December 28th to complete registration for this offer.

I have Globalist status and trying to match to AA. I have linked my accounts but I do not see where I can register for the offer. I have looked under the AA promotions and see where I can match from AA to Hyatt but not the other way around. I am also not able to find it under Hyatt promotions to match to AA. What am I missing?
I believe you have to link your accounts and then it should show up under Promotions. One group member also thought it wasn’t working and then magically it was there a bit later. This is the direct link to Promotions. https://www.aa.com/aadvantage-program/profile/promotions.
I have my Hyatt and AA accounts linked. I do not have an AA promotion called anything close to “American Airlines Instant Status Pass”. I wonder if this is a targeted promotion.
Very odd indeed. The press release certainly implied it was for everyone…
Did you opt in for the marketing emails from AA?
same here, and to bunch of my friends, just dont see it.
For everyone having trouble getting the issue on the AA side I’m told it should take up to 24 hours to appear in promotions.
finally I got hold of AA customer service and they confirmed to me this is a targeted promotion only.
have globalist status and linked on hyatt side (on 2 accounts) but not seeing anything
If you linked your Hyatt and AA accounts and don’t see your offer in the AA Promotions tab, I have some clarification from AA:
World of Hyatt members who just linked their World of Hyatt and AA accounts today will not see the offer reflected in their AA promotions tab until December 12th but they have until December 28th to complete registration for this offer.
I’m an Explorist and was told by an AA AAdvanrage Rep that it’s a targeted promo. I called AA this afternoon because I didn’t see the offer in my promotions tab and I’ve had my Hyatt/AA accounts linked for a while now.
My Globalist only was matched to Platinum. I just get it the week prior, so it may not have been in the system fully. I did call AA and talked with a couple of different reps and eventually, they corrected it to Platinum Pro! I don’t fly AA much, but I do fly Alaska a fair amount, so I’m looking forward to Emerald status to get upgraded seats compt!
