LifeMiles: 15% Transfer Bonus from American Express Membership Rewards
I’m very lukewarm on this and I’ll explain why, but the details are:
Transfer your Membership Rewards® from American Express to LifeMiles and earn 15% bonus miles from November 23rd to December 15th, 2020.
Now, keep in mind that Avianca’s LifeMiles can be an absolute nightmare to deal with and during COVID they have been worse than normal, with people unable to reach them at all.
As well, while they are allowing free changes under their current COVID-19 waiver policy, they are only going to let you cancel and redeposit for free if the flight itself is cancelled. And even in that case they will keep your $25 per booking fee. If you have to cancel, let’s say because you aren’t comfortable flying amid an uptick in COVID-19 cases where you are flying, they will charge you $200 to do so and get your miles back. The policy states:
Tickets purchased with miles may have multiple changes without penalty or fare difference, if the flight date is before November 30, 2020 while in the same cabin. For changes after November 30, 2020 and until December 31, 2021, the penalty will only be waived once; after the second change, the penalty will be charged for the change and fare difference. All this with new flight date maximum December 31, 2021.
Meanwhile, Aeroplan (an excellent alternative to LifeMiles and also an Amex partner) will allow anything booked by Dec 31st, 2020 to be redeposited at no charge. And most US carriers are doing the same right now.
So, I want you to know about the 15% transfer bonus, but please only transfer if you have a near term booking that you are pretty darn confident about flying.
