I think this is great news, though I am sure there will be some that will say they don’t trust it.
CLEAR, the company that handles a sort of “premium-level TSA PreCheck” that allows you to bypass all TSA lines for a fee of a bit more than $109 per person per year if you have any status with Delta or United – or $199 without (with $100 rebated annually if you have an American Express Green Card) is developing a vaccine passport.
They are still in development, but say that if you download the app, you’ll be notified when it’s ready.
It is not 100% clear to me (no pun intended!) if you need to be a paying CLEAR subscriber, but it implies that it’s a free service.
Here’s what they say about the coming project:
Now, I support this project as the US is greatly lagging in any sort of development of this sort vs. many other developed countries around the world that recognize a need for a non-cheatable system.
It’s just too easy to fake a COVID-19 vaccine card. And sadly (really sadly) there are people with ethics that tell them that it’s OK to do that because Bill Gates will track them if they get vaccinated. (By the way, have I mentioned lately how much i love Microsoft Office?!).
I received my 2nd dose last Monday, meaning that I’ll be considered “fully vaccinated” in 9 more days. I can’t wait. I also uploaded my vaccine card proof to my health care provider. I figured it could come in handy in the future and especially in the very off-chance I misplaced my card.
I think that the writing is on the wall for vaccine passports. Some countries, like Iceland, are already allowing vaccinated travelers in based on that status.
But isn’t it only a matter of time before they catch someone with a fake one and change the system to only allow vaccinated persons that have digital and verifiable proof?
I do…
