If you are reading this and just sighed a big sigh, knowing exactly what the rest of this article is going to say, yes, you are right. It hurts me as much as it hurts you.
Effective today (so, apparently with no time to cram in one last go), you will lose your autopay discount when you make a credit card payment.
For those that didn’t immediately know what I’m talking about, T-Mobile in 2023 ended autopay discounts ($5 per line) unless you linked up a bank account or debit card for autopay.
There are myriad reasons to want to use a credit card over a bank account or debit card. Of course, one reason is the points. But there is also the $10 monthly wireless credit offered on The Business Platinum Card® from American Express not to mention credit cards that offer cell phone protection.
I have T-Mobile and have personally have been putting $10 each month onto my The Business Platinum Card® from American Express for the $10 rebate and the rest on my Chase Ink Business Cash® Credit Card for 5X Ultimate Rewards points. With a bill of close to $200, that’s about 1,000 Ultimate Rewards points each month which I value at $17.
Now, I may continue to do exactly this. With two lines, the Amex Business Platinum benefit covers the $10 loss of auto pay and then I keep getting the 5X on the balance with my Ink Cash. But it does make the effort involved seem a bit more than it’s worth, I admit.
Sorry, everyone!

I have a bank account linked, but I also have a negative balance due to overpaying last month by CC. Are you saying that next I won’t get the discount that bill must be fully paid by a new ACH? (The HT link you posted does not work for me.)
I believe that if your negative balance covers the next month in full, you are good, but if you have anything you need to pay and use a credit card you will lose the discount for the month.
