Update: As of October 2020, the option discussed below has been removed and is no longer available.
A reader in the MilesTalk Facebook group asked today “I have 744 Hertz Gold Points that will expire in August, no current plans to need a rental car anytime soon. Does anyone have any advice for transferring these points? Is it worth transferring?”
And you know what? There is an option, although not one rich in rewards.
You can exchange your points to several Frequent Flyer and Hotel programs from this page.
You can exchange 600 points for 500 miles in the following airline programs:
Alaska Airlines
American Airlines
Frontier
Delta Air Lines
United Airlines
Or, 500 Amtrak points.
Or, 1,200 Southwest points.
Or, 1,000 IHG or Marriott points.
It’s worth noting that 600 points is the rate for a one day car rental, so you are essentially cashing out what could be worth $50 ++ in a free rental day for $5-$10 in points. That’s why this is ONLY if your points are expiring and you would otherwise watch them expire.
Did you know about this? Have you ever used the transfer option? Let me know here, on Twitter, or in the private MilesTalk Facebook group.
New to all of this? My new “introduction to miles and points” book, MilesTalk: Live Your Wildest Travel Dreams Using Miles and Points is available now.
