What is the Marriott Elite Choice Benefit?

If you have reached either 50 night or 75 nights with Marriott Bonvoy in 2020, you have earned a bonus gift from Marriott for the achievement.

You must select your gift by January 8th, else you will automatically be given the Suite Night Awards and you’ll lose your chance to change it.

If you are in a cash crunch, you should avoid travel rewards credit cards until you are caught up. Here are our favorite credit cards for Intro 0% APR offers and for balance transfer offers

You can select your benefits here.

What are the Marriott Platinum (50 night) Choice Benefit Options?

At 50 nights (Bonvoy Platinum), you are offered a choice of:

  • Five Elite Night Credits
  • 40% off your favorite hotel bed
  • Marriott Bonvoy™ Silver Elite status for a friend or family member
  • US$100 donation to UNICEF
  • Five Suite Night Awards™

What are the Marriott Titanium (75 night) Choice Benefit Options?

And at 75 nights (Bonvoy Titanium), you are offered a choice of:

  • Five (5) Suite Night Awards™
  • 40% off bed
  • $100 Charity Donation
  • The gift of Gold Elite status for a friend or family member
  • Five (5) Elite Night Credits
  • One (1) Free Night Award

If you are thinking about the 5 elite nights, it’s vital you read this post first, or you may REALLY regret it: Don’t Make This Mistake Choosing Your Marriott Choice Benefit (for Earning Platinum Status). Applying them now will add to your 2020 tally, not 2021.

As well, the one free night award at 75 nights is for an award night certificate covering a room up to 40,000 points. It will expire Dec 31, 2021.

What Marriott Bonvoy Choice Benefits Should You Choose?

I can only share my opinion. The Suite Night awards (you get 5 per choice) will be good through the end of this year. Some people have great luck getting upgraded into fantastic suites (generally in Europe and Asia), while others never have their SNAs accepted. I used 3 SNAs for a fantastic suite at the Gritti Palace in Venice last summer and 2 nights expired. Remember Suite Night Awards are only confirmed 5 nights before you check in and are subject to availability. At least they are controlled by Marriott, and not the property, which somewhat limits games.

Personally, I achieved Titanium this year and chose the 5 nights for my 50 night choice benefit and then I selected the 40k award night with my 75 night gift. I’m passing on the second batch of Suite Night Awards this year because I don’t have any super special trips with the need and, as Titanium, I’m still entitled to suite upgrades on arrival. That is enough for me.

yottaWhat is Yotta Savings?: The Yotta Savigs account is a really fun way to earn interest at a higher rate than Marcus while having some fun each night when the Yotta prize ball drops. Currently, the statistical odds imply a net savings rate of between around 1% and 3% - at a time when banks like Marcus are offering a paltry 0.5%. Plus, it's fun! | Read my review of Yotta.

I got "in the game" in 2003 and since then I've collected literally millions and millions of frequent flyer miles and hotel points. I've flown around the world in first class seats that would cost $29,000 using frequent flyer miles and a few bucks in tax. And I've stayed in some of the finest hotels - all for free! A few years ago I realized many of my friends actually thought I was paying for these!! So I started sharing my tips. It's long been a passion, but when I hosted a session on Miles and Points at this year's South by Southwest festival, my love of the game intensified and this blog was born.
