The Citi® Double Cash is a staple in my wallet. I’ve had it for as long as I can remember. It earns 2% cash back (1% when you buy and 1% when you pay). Until recently it was just cash back, but then Citi began allowing transfers to ThankYou Points and now it simply earns ThankYou Points which you can redeem for cash at a penny a point.

However, as we discuss in the Citi Trifecta, if you have a Citi Premier card as well, these become fully transferable points to a wide range of airline and hotel partners (or, if you want, you can still just take 2% cash back).

Even as a simple Bifecta, you could combine this card and Citi Premier and earn 2X or 3X on absolutely everything, using Double Cash for anything that isn’t in a 3X bonus category on the Premier.

There’s normally no bonus offer at all on the Double Cash. So normally, I suggest that, before applying, most people check if they have an old Citi card they no longer use to product change to a Double Cash since there’s no bonus anyway.

However, right now Citi is offering $200 (which will be in the form of 20,000 ThankYou points – combinable with a Citi Premier if you have one) when you spend just $1,500 within 6 months.

This is the highest offer we’ve ever seen to signup for the Citi Double Cash.

Note that even though the bonus is awarded as 20,000 ThankYou points, there are no eligibility restrictions on this card. It doesn’t matter if you just got a bonus on a Citi Premier, for example, and it won’t block you from getting one of those later, either. This is similar to how the Custom Cash is in its own category and you can get that bonus regardless of other ThankYou Card bonuses.
