For the uninitiated, the Chase Freedom Credit Card is an essential part of what is known as the Chase Trifecta.

The trifecta includes either the Chase Sapphire Preferred or Chase Sapphire Reserve, the Chase Freedom Unlimited, andchase freedom the Chase Freedom. This allows you to have the ability to transfer points to airlines and hotels (Preferred/Reserve), the ability to earn 1.5X points on non-bonused spend (the Unlimited), and then 5X points on rotating quarterly rotating bonus categories with the Chase Freedom.

The Chase Freedom quarterly categories for Oct 1 – Dec 31, 2019 are as follows:

5X Chase Ultimate Rewards Points (for up to $1,500 in total spend) on Department Stores and on purchases made using PayPal or Chase Pay.

If you already have the card, just head here to register.

If you don’t, you’ll first need to get the card and then you’ll be able to register.

It’s generally advised to max out the quarterly categories one way or another, as the only other way to earn 5X Chase points is from buying Office Supplies (for instance, gift cards) with the Chase Ink Business Cash.

Chase Pay has been de-emphasized as of late, but with the holiday season, department stores will be easy for many (don’t forget to combine with portal cash/points!!) If not, PayPal would be a screamingly easy way to max out your $1,500 for 7,500 Ultimate Rewards points.

Do you max out your Chase Freedom rotating categories each quarter?

  1. Can I use the Chase Business Ink Preferred card (rather than the CSP or CSR) to ‘hold’ URs?
If so, what’s the advantage of keeping my CSP?

  2. Hi Suzanne. Yes, you can. If you have the CIP, there is no reason to also have a CSP. You could consider upgrading your CSP to a CSR if you’d use Priority Pass. Else you could downgrade it to a Freedom or Freedom Unlimited.
