Chase Sapphire Reserve for Business Adds $1,000 Edit Credit, Caps 3X Ad Spend

The Chase Sapphire Reserve for Business℠ is making two significant updates.

The first is around the 3x points earning on social media & search engine advertising. I’ve long been beating the drum that if you have significant ad spend on these channels, you simply cannot beat the Chase Sapphire Reserve for Business℠.

3X on unlimited ad spend is insane considering how many businesses spend literal millions on this (although Google started moving super high spenders to ACH payments).

I had to assume that either there would be too many accounts spending many millions, or perhaps there would be some gaming of this somehow.

Needless to say I’m getting at the fact that they are adding a cap now, but I think it’s an entirely reasonable cap. You’ll keep earning after $1M per (account anniversary) year, but at only 1x.

Consider that the Chase Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card maxes out at $150,000 in total 3x spend and it makes even more sense.

Chase Sapphire Reserve for Business Will Cap 3X Advertising Spend at $1 Million

Beginning November 15, 2026:

  • Cardmembers will earn 3x points on the first $1 million spent on social media & search engine advertising each account anniversary year.
  • Cardmembers will continue earning beyond the $1 million cap at the standard rate of 1x, with no maximum spend.

So, yes, technically this is a devaluation.

But $1 million of annual ad spend at 3X means you could still earn 3 million Ultimate Rewards points per account anniversary year from this category before dropping to 1X.

That’s a pretty generous cap! Admittedly, it’s not as good as no cap 😉

The Edit By Chase Travel℠ Credit Is Doubling to (Up to) $1,000 Per Year

Chase is also making a nice improvement that will net many cardholders an extra $500 in statement credits per year by doubling the available credits on two-night (or longer) stays at The Edit collection.

Right now you get up to two a year, redeemable anytime. From next year, you’ll get four.

Beginning January 1, 2027:

  • The annual statement credit for The Edit by Chase Travel will double from $500 to $1,000, structured as a minimum of four statement credits with a max value of $250 per stay, that can be used at any point throughout the year.
  • Eligible stays also include The Edit program’s complimentary benefits such as a $100 property credit, daily breakfast for two, a room upgrade (if available) and more – an average total value of over $550 per stay.

So if you’re someone who actually uses The Edit benefit, this is a pretty meaningful improvement — and certainly takes some of the sting out of putting a cap on the 3X advertising category.

When Do the Sapphire Reserve for Business Changes Take Effect?

There are two different dates to keep in mind.

The new $1 million annual cap on 3X social media and search engine advertising spend begins November 15, 2026.

The increased $1,000 annual The Edit statement credit begins January 1, 2027.

NOTE: The Chase Sapphire Reserve® consumer card is not part of this change.

Chase Sapphire Reserve for Business Changes: FAQs

Is Chase Sapphire Reserve for Business eliminating 3X points on advertising?

No. The card will continue earning 3X points on social media and search engine advertising, but beginning November 15, 2026, the 3X rate will be limited to the first $1 million in eligible spending per account anniversary year.

Spending above $1 million will earn 1X.

How many Chase Ultimate Rewards points can you earn from the 3X advertising category?

At the new $1 million annual cap, you could earn up to 3 million Ultimate Rewards points per account anniversary year at the 3X rate from eligible social media and search engine advertising.

There is no maximum amount you can spend after reaching the cap, but additional eligible advertising spend will earn 1X.

How much is the Sapphire Reserve for Business The Edit credit?

Beginning January 1, 2027, the annual The Edit by Chase Travel statement credit will increase from $500 to $1,000.

The credit will be available as up to four statement credits of up to $250 per eligible stay. They can be used any time (i.e. they are not quarterly).

Do The Edit stays have a minimum length?

Yes. The statement credit applies to eligible two-night or longer stays booked through The Edit by Chase Travel.

Does the consumer Chase Sapphire Reserve get the new $1,000 The Edit credit?

No. These changes apply to the Chase Sapphire Reserve for Business, not the consumer Sapphire Reserve.

Bottom Line

Yes, unlimited 3X advertising spend is going to be capped. But $1 million per account anniversary year at 3X is still an enormous amount of spend — especially when you compare it with the $150,000 3X cap on the Chase Ink Preferred (which includes all 3X categories combined).

Meanwhile, anyone who books often with The Edit gets a real positive change, with the annual statement credit doubling from $500 to $1,000 in 2027.

And don’t forget, the Chase Sapphire Reserve for Business℠ still has a massive welcome bonus offer on now to earn 200,000 bonus points after you spend $30,000 on purchases in your first 6 months from account opening.

Dave Grossman
I got "in the game" in 2003 and since then I've collected literally millions and millions of frequent flyer miles and hotel points. I've flown around the world in first class seats that would cost $29,000 using frequent flyer miles and a few bucks in tax. And I've stayed in some of the finest hotels - all for free! Several years ago, I realized many of my friends actually thought I was paying for these!! So I started sharing my tips. It's long been a passion, but when I hosted a session on Miles and Points at the South by Southwest festival, my love of the game intensified and this blog was born. Since then, I've written my book, MilesTalk: Live Your Wildest Travel Dreams Using Miles and Points (2nd Edition) - (author profile), give seminars on miles and points all over the world, and occasionally write for publications such as Frommer's and Forbes Advisor.
