Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal covid mexico
Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal - Suite (Standard Rooms are bookable with a Free Night Certificate)

During the pandemic, Hilton allowed members to use “Free Weekend Night” awards any night of the week.

These certificates are earned on both the Hilton Honors Surpass® Credit Card and The Hilton Honors American Express Business Card (after $15,000 spend annually) as well as the premium Hilton Honors Aspire® Credit Card (one at renewal and one if you spend $60,000 in a calendar year).

Iincidentally the Hilton Aspire is also my choice for the best hotel credit card.

The certificates are pretty amazing as they are usable at nearly any Hilton Honors affiliated hotel in the world, as long as a Standard Award room is available – no matter how many points that Standard room costs (and the current maximum is 150,000 points for a free night at the Waldorf Astoria Maldives). That can provide significant and outsized value. The Waldorf Astoria Pedregal in Los Cabos, Mexico is another fan favorite for these certificates.

Until COVID, these certificates had to be used on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday night. But in a recent change (that I sensed was coming and was first found officially live by Frequent Miler today), they can now permanently be used any night of the week.

This is really fantastic news and makes something already great even better.

New to all of this? My “introduction to miles and points” book, MilesTalk: Live Your Wildest Travel Dreams Using Miles and Points is available on Amazon and at major booksellers.

I got "in the game" in 2003 and since then I've collected literally millions and millions of frequent flyer miles and hotel points. I've flown around the world in first class seats that would cost $29,000 using frequent flyer miles and a few bucks in tax. And I've stayed in some of the finest hotels - all for free! A few years ago I realized many of my friends actually thought I was paying for these!! So I started sharing my tips. It's long been a passion, but when I hosted a session on Miles and Points at the South by Southwest festival, my love of the game intensified and this blog was born.
