Starlux

You’d certainly be forgiven if you’ve never heard of Starlux Airlines.

It’s a brand new airline based on Taiwan. It’s just started taking bookings for its three routes:

Tapei to Macau, Penang, and Da Nang

It’s also not part of any alliance. But they are offering an opportunity to status match from another airline to their frequent flyer program and keep that status for 4 years.

The four tiers in their program don’t have exactly killer benefits – the best at the top tier being waived redemptions of awards.  I can’t even find an award chart or a way to see how the program will work.

The Status Match Opportunity

All of that said, if you have status with another airline and can back it up with actual proof of flying to earn it, it seems they will match you (no, there’s nothing published about what matches to what).

You’ll need to submit this form. All details available are here.

Is this worthwhile? Well, if you plan to fly Starlux, sure!  Hey, Ben aka Lucky of OMAAT already has some trips booked.

I am not sure that I’ll bother with this, although one thought is that I wonder if Starlux may join an alliance within the next four years. I have read nothing of the sort and it seems unlikely, though if they did, that could be quite the match.
