For just 3 weeks, it’s going to be a whole lot easier to earn the Southwest Companion Pass [Guide] for a year and a half (through December 31, 2025).

(The Southwest Companion Pass allows you to pay only taxes and fees on a Companion Ticket – with a specified Companion – unlimited times while you have the Companion Pass. Even award tickets are included!)

You need 135,000 Companion Pass points in a year and you get 10,000 automatically each year just by holding any Southwest credit card.

Usually, the only realistic path is to get both a personal and a business card which puts you over that threshold easily – but many people either don’t qualify for a small business credit card or aren’t comfortable applying for one (even though more people are eligible for small business credit cards than they think!).

Right now – through June 26, 2024 – you can earn 85,000 (Companion Pass qualifying) Rapid Rewards points when you spend $3,000 within 3 months on the Southwest Rapid Rewards® Plus Credit Card. (Any of the 3 personal cards has the same offer but the Plus has the lowest annual fee.)

Now let’s take a look at why this is perfect for those “no business credit card” folks.

Once you meet your minimum spend on this card, you’ll have at least 88,000 points (85,000 from the bonus and $3,000 from the spend – a bit more if the spend is on bonus multiplier categories). You also have the 10,000 points you get by holding any Southwest credit card.

So you are already at 98,000 of the 135,000 points you need. Keep in mind that the Companion Pass is valid not just this year but from the time you earn it through the end of the next year – so this juice is worth the squeeze as you’ll have the Companion Pass for about a year and a half!

To get 37,000 more points, you can use four primary methods.

  1. Refer a friend to the card. You get 20,000 per approved friend. Just two would do it!
  2. Boost your balance with Rapid Rewards dining
  3. Use the Rapid Rewards eShopping portal
  4. And, maybe easiest, book via Rapid Rewards hotels as sometimes the bonus earn on these can be outsized (even though as a third party booking you won’t get elite benefits or loyalty points at the hotels).

Long story short, this is an exciting offer for someone that wanted to get into the Companion Pass lifestyle without opening a business card.

You can earn 85,000 (Companion Pass qualifying) Rapid Rewards points when you spend $3,000 within 3 months on the Southwest Rapid Rewards® Plus Credit Card via this link. Ends June 26, 2024.
