Virgin Devalues ANA Business Class Awards – Effective May 23rd, 2024
It’s not that long ago that Virgin increased the rates of First Class awards on ANA from the US to Tokyo. Just over a year ago, in March 2023, First Class awards went from 110,000 miles round trip (from the West Coast) and 120,000 miles (from the East Coast) to 145,000 and 170,000 miles respectively.
Well, MilesTalk group mega-member Tim (travelmugpoints) caught another increase – this time increasing the J awards.
The Price Changes
Through May 22, 2024:
First Class to/from Japan from West Coast: 145,000 points Round Trip
First Class to/from Japan from East Coast: 170,000 points Round Trip
Business Class to/from Japan from West Coast: 90,000 points Round Trip
Business Class to/from Japan from East Coast: 95,000 points Round Trip
From May 23, 2024:
First Class to/from Japan from West Coast: 145,000 points Round Trip (unchanged)
First Class to/from Japan from East Coast: 170,000 points Round Trip (unchanged)
Business Class to/from Japan from West Coast: 105,000 points Round Trip
Business Class to/from Japan from East Coast: 120,000 points Round Trip

That means that a one way flight from the West Coast is now 7,500 more Virgin points each way and 12,500 more each way from the East Coast.
End of the world? Definitely not – and probably predictable following the First Class increase.
These awards still represent incredible value, especially considering the frequent 30% transfer bonuses to Virgin. Right now there is a Chase transfer bonus to Virgin for 30% until June 15th, 2024 and a similar 20% one from Amex just expired.
(Make sure you are subscribed to transfer bonus notifications so you don’t miss these!)
So, bottom line – hurry and call tonight if you want the old rates.
