As first reported by Danny Deal Guru, holders of the Chase Sapphire Reserve card will no longer have access to dining experiences at airports using their Priority Pass membership.

Danny Deal Guru pointed out that the following language is on Sapphire Reserve cardmember statements:

“As of July 1, 2024 you will no longer have access to restaurants, cafes, and markets participating in the Priority Pass Select network as part of the Priority Pass Select Benefit associated with your Card. Access to Priority Pass Select’s network of lounges and other select airport experiences is not impacted by this update.”

The airport dining benefit (which includes gems like Bobby Van’s Steakhouse at JFK) is one of my favorites, but access has been on the decline for years now.

American Express was the first issuer to lop off the benefit 5 years ago. Capital One removed the benefit from the Venture X card (but not the Venture X Business card!) last year.

This change at Chase will also apply to the JP Morgan Reserve card and the Ritz Carlton card, so the list of cards that offer this fantastic benefit has shrunk tremendously.

As of now, the only cards I can think of (along with the help of the MilesTalk Facebook group moderators) that still offer airport dining on their associated Priority Pass cards are:

  • Venture X Business Card (this is available to apply for)
  • Citi Prestige (no longer available to new applicants)
  • US Bank Altitude Connect (4 visits annually)
  • US Bank Altitude Reserve (8 visits annually)
  • UBS Visa Infinite
  • Bank of America Premium Rewards Elite card

I reached out to Chase to see if there was anything else to know. Not really..

“Beginning July 1, 2024, Chase Sapphire Reserve, J.P. Morgan Reserve and The Ritz-Carlton™ Credit Card cardmembers will no longer have access to restaurants, cafes and markets participating in Priority Pass Select™. Access to Priority Pass Select’s network of lounges and other select airport experiences is not impacted by this update.”

Pretty much the same language as on the CSR statement, but confirming it affects the JP Morgan Reserve and Ritz-Carlton cards as well.

Clearly, this is an add-on benefit for the issuer that is no small expense and they do not feel is a big enough loss to drive cardmember loss.
