You may have heard the news. As of next year (2023), you will need 10,000 more Southwest Companion Pass points to qualify for Companion pass. However, if you hold a Southwest credit card before Dec 31st of any year, you’ll be gifted 10,000 Companion Pass points in January.
This will make things harder if you are getting a Companion Pass using the credit card strategy early in the year, but changed nothing if you apply mid-October to mid-December.
I have updated the master “Guide to Earning Companion Pass Master Guide” accordingly.
If you follow the strategy starting now (being careful not to hit ANY minimum spend to receive the bonus offer on the cards until January 1st), there’s no effective difference.
