What? “I thought the Status Match Merry Go Round® was dead,” you say…
Not quite (although the end of the Wyndham Business Earner credit card providing Caesars Diamond status as of February 1, 2025 is a HUGE blow).
There is no known way to match back to Caesars Diamond in Feb 2025 at this time. It’s possible that it will still be a benefit of Founder’s Card, but I would not touch that until they confirm the benefit IN FEBRUARY when you can actually attain the 2025 Caesars program year status.
If you are already on the Merry Go Round and can get to Atlantic City easy enough, let’s look at your playbook. And let’s keep in mind that Ocean now requires 24 months of inactivity to rematch. The Wynn stay and MSC cruise from Ocean is a primary goal of the MGR for many, so what can you do?
In this article
If You Have Ocean Prime Now
If you currently have Ocean Prime status, that means it expires June 30, 2025. It also means that you have at minimum 15 more months until you are eligible again as the earliest you could have matched was April 1, 2024. Even if you matched then, you are looking for a rematch no earlier than April of 2026!
How can we get you at least one more shot at it (assuming now more significant program changes)?
In March 2025, take your Ocean card back to Hard Rock and re-match to Icon. You’ll now have Icon status until February 2026. In January of 2026 (anytime from January 6th on to be safe), you’ll take your Hard Rock over to Bally’s and match to Superstar. THEN, in March of 2026 you can rematch that to Hard Rock Icon. And then in either April or July of 2026 (or whenever you hit your two years of Ocean inactivity), you can match back to Ocean! The April OR July is because the program year begins in July but they have allowed matches up to 3 months early the last 2 years.
If your Bally’s Superstar card has a Dec 2026 expiration date, which it should, then you could consolidate and do the Bally’s match in February and do the rest all at once when you are eligible for Ocean.
Is that a lot of effort? You betcha. But you’ve been asking for a strategy and now you’ve got one!
Don’t forget you also now need to earn 250 Tier Credits at Ocean to receive the Wynn nights and cruise.
If You Don’t Have Ocean Prime, But Do Have Caesars Diamond
I’m talking about those with Caesars Diamond and nothing else. This implies you got the Wyndham Business credit card recently, got Caesars Diamond, and haven’t acted yet. You are in crunch time. That card will expire January 31st and you’ll be out of the game.
You need to go to Bally’s Atlantic City THIS MONTH (Jan 2025) and match to Superstar.
Then from March on, you can match your Superstar card to Hard Rock Icon.
And then you can match that to Ocean Prime in either April or July. Once again, the April OR July is because the program year begins in July but they have allowed matches up to 3 months early the last 2 years.
Note: I’m giving earliest match dates above. But if your Superstar card from Bally’s expires Dec 2025, there is no reason you can’t wait until April or July and make only two total trips to Atlantic City.
Another Note: If you are in Chicago, that Bally’s will only match from Hard Rock Icon, not Caesars Diamond.
Caveats
I can take no responsibility for things changing.
As always, something could change tomorrow that kills every single word I wrote above. Being in the MilesTalk Facebook group and subscribing to this blog are the best ways to at least know if something major changes.
But let’s say that come March, Hard Rock decides you can no longer “re-match” to Icon… game over for anyone that’s had Hard Rock status before.
As of now we know that Bally’s IS still matching. However, what we are not sure about is their “inactivity” rule. We’ve been told 13 months of inactivity, but I have heard of people matching a second time sooner than that. If you have any datapoints on matching sooner than 13 months, please drop them in the Comments.

Re: Ocean – “It also means that you have at minimum 15 more months until you are eligible again as the earliest you could have matched was April 1, 2024. Even if you matched then, you are looking for a rematch no earlier than April of 2026!”
I matched March 5th (or very early March) 2024. I think they let you match 4 months early, March 1 or after, the past couple of years. So I can rematch March 5th, 2026.
I just matched Caesar’s Diamond at Bally’s in Chicago, but only to the Star level. $10 slot play was it.
Unfortunately as far as the MGR goes, Star is worse than nothing… can’t be matched to anything.
I matched at Ballys Atlantic City yesterday (Jan 6 2025) for Superstar. Card printed with the correct date. The lady at the desk did mention the 13 months inactivity before rematch.
Oh, also she said since the Ballys VIP lounge is closed on weekdays I could use the one free visit next time I am there on a weekend. I hadn’t heard anyone say that before, so the info might be helpful.
Do we know what Ocean inactivity actually means? If I used the card for a free parking at the Ocean hotel, is it considered an activity?
Yes, using the card for free parking is activity and resets the clock.
So for those of us who have Ocean Prime, it’s going to take 4 trips to casinos to be able to regain Ocean Prime in 2026 (in my case, December 2026). That’s a lot of work, so I think I’ll be “hanging it up”. But I do thank you for all of the valuable insight you gave about the merry go round.
So right now I have ocean prime till June 2025. So does that mean I have to have 250 tier credits to book my cruise with MSC or the stay with Wynn?
We are trying to do this right now. We never had Ocean Prime before and only my wife has Caesars Diamond (via credit card). We are in Atlantic City right now (throw EOD tomorrow, actually early Wednesday). We just matched her card to Hard Rock Icon. However, she said the person helping her said since she previously had Hard Rock card, her Icon status doesn’t start until next month (what?). The card she got has date printed 2/28/2025. It’s my understand that’s the expiration date – isn’t it? She said the player at the slot club was rude and unhelpful, so she couldn’t get that straight. If we login to her Hard Rock account online, it is showing her status as Icon right now, tonight. I am thinking she has her Icon status through the end of February (printed date on the card – 2/28/2025). Does that sound right?
Also, our plan is to go to the Ocean tomorrow first thing in the morning, get matched to Ocean Prime, and play for several hours hopefully getting her 250 TP. I am planning to cut our losses at $200 (possibly $100, depending on how quickly we are losing). One free MSC cruise (and even two nights and at the Wynn) and worth that much to us, especially when there are no guarantees.
Is this plan realistic, or there a flaw somewhere I’m not seeing? Thanks!
Very odd how HR talked to you but yes the status is valid through next month. You could then bring your Ocean card (which expires June 30, 2025) back to Hard Rock anytime from March 1 on and match again.
Thank you! Not sure next time we will be back in AC. FWIW, went to Ocean today, no issues with matching to Prime. Got a free T-Shirt (yay!), pass to the Avila lounge (which turned out to be extremely nice, open bar, prime rib, shrimp cocktail, etc., even deserts were amazing). Played for 4 hours to get 252 TP. Mostly slots between 10 to 60 cents per bet. Lost around $120 total. We earned 164TR the first three hours, and really cranked it up last hour to earn 88 points in just a bit of an hour. That was for one card only, since only my wife had Wyndham Earner/Diamond to begin with. Thank you for all the tips! Now on to booking everything, but it can wait. Flying back home to Seattle tomorrow morning.
Didn’t get a chance to stop by Bally’s to match status there.
I’m heading tomorrow I think but curious if it makes sense to wait until June if I have legit czr diamonds and haven’t done any other matches?
I submitted for Carnival fun match about 4-5 months ago and haven’t received any offer. I submitted Caesars Diamond, Wynn Platinum and MGM Gold. Trying to figure out what went wrong. It says “one time submission only” Any advice on how to resubmit or another program that I can submit casino status to? I have those that I mentioned. MGM Gold status until 2026.
What would be the ideal for someone who has real czr diamond from churning gambling hedged bets? So I am not constrained by the Jan czr diamond problem. But I have not matched to any of these other places in AC yet. Trying to understand these status years.
You should wait until Ocean opens up matches for their 2025-2026 program year and do everything in one shot. Should be March or July – we don’t know until it happens.
Is it possible to match Ocean to Icon at Hard Rock Seminole in Florida?
It’s not, sorry.
I live in Brazil but I will be in Miami on March 1st, my MGM Gold is also valid until 2026, do you think I can match the MGM Gold to the icon in Seminole Florida?
