Ebates, I mean Rakuten (man I hate that name) is having a one day sale on a variety of brands giving either 10% cash back if you have a standard cash back account – or 10x points with an American Express Membership Rewards earning Rakuten / Ebates account.

10% cash back or 10x Amex Membership Rewards points

The most travel related deals on today are:

Choice Hotels: 10% / 10x on hotel bookings

IHG Hotels: 10% / 10x on hotel bookings

Travelocity: 10% / 10x on car rentals, 3.5% / 3.5x on hotels

For those not familiar with the option to earn American Express Membership Rewards instead of cash, it’s been an option for a while now. But you need to create a whole new account. I did this a few months ago and had no problems, though I did make sure my email address in my Amex account was not the same one as in my cash back earning account. I think that is probably key since the account gets auto-created when you link your Amex card.

If you don’t yet have an American Express Membership Rewards earning account and want one, you can use my referral ink which will get you a 1,000 Amex MR point bonus after your first purchase.

Or, here’s the link for the standard cash back account (if you don’t have one) which gives you $10 after your first purchase.

I can say that I have switched all my earnings to the Amex MRs. To me, it’s a no brainer. I value American Express Membership Rewards points around 1.75 cents each, meaning I’m yielding 75% more back this way.

Which did you choose?
