Hyatt today introduced a “day rate” that is specifically designed for the Work From Home (WFH) crowd.

It’s obviously smart to offer when hotel occupancy overall remains low. Many are “trapped” at home where they may be quite a bit less productive than in their office, yet may not be able to access their normal office space (or it may just be very inconvenient right now).

Work From Home Rates Count As “Night Credits”

The most important thing here (to me!) is that these day rates, which are give you access to a room from 7am to 7pm, count as a “night credit” for the purposes of achieving Hyatt’s top-tier Globalist status.

In some cases, you may find this deal cheaper than a “traditional” mattress run, and it could be more useful to you as well. Rates start at $65/day.

Of course, it’s a hotel topic lately, now that you can achieve Hyatt Globalist in as few as 10 actual nights right now.

In fact, the thinking on that just gets easier and easier for me. Given that to meet the full signup bonus of the World of Hyatt credit card requires $6,000 in spend and each $5,000 you spend on that card earns 2 elite nights, it occurred to me that simply making sure I hit that $5,000 mark in January will instantly wipe 2 nights off.

To recap the Hyatt Globalist deal:

  • You need 30 elite nights in 2021 to qualify for top-tier Hyatt Globalist Status. (Reduced from 60 normally).
  • NEW World of Hyatt credit card holders (until Dec 31, 2020) receive 10 bonus elite nights instead of the normal 5. This will apply both to 2020 and 2021.
  • (Existing World of Hyatt credit card holders receive 5 bonus elite nights every year).

  • Therefore, if you were able to get a new World of Hyatt credit card between now and Dec 31st, you need just 20 more nights.
  • Next: There is a Double Elite Nights promotion on for which you must register to earn Triple Points (Quadruple if you have the World of Hyatt credit card) across all Hyatt locations worldwide for stays through February 28, 2021.
  • This would mean that those 30 total nights are reduced by however many night credits you get from the credit card. In the above scenario, 10 bonus nights from the new card offer + 2 nights from spend = 18 nights to go.
  • Since actual stay-based elite nights are doubled between now and Feb 28th (if you register!), in my scenario I need just 9 actual nights on a stay with a checkout between Jan 1 and Feb 28, 2021.
  • I’m sure I’ll have a few organic nights. I’ll “Mattress run” the rest at a 5,000 point a night hotel.
  • However, you could use a paid rate (and earn 3-4x points on the stay as well!) if you have affordable enough rates within easy distance of where you are.
