Real quick…. if you have been eyeing a room at the Waldorf Astoria Maldives, where we first discovered 150,000 points per night award nights, the time is here to grab some nights in 2022.

If you go out into March – May of 2022, you can even find 5 straight nights (5th night free on reward nights!) at the old 120,000 rate. This was discovered by Head for Points and I noticed on View from the Wing. There are also many scattered dates in 2021, but I wasn’t able to find 5 at any point this year. Certainly an improvement from when I could only find standard rooms for this month and nothing later through next year.

If you are in a cash crunch, you should avoid travel rewards credit cards until you are caught up. Here are our favorite credit cards for Intro 0% APR offers and for balance transfer offers

And keep in mind, you can use your Free Night Certificates here, even if the room is at 150,000 points that night – it just needs to say “Standard Room Reward.”

You already know that if you go, the yacht is priced at over $700 pp and food will be exorbitant, so know what you are getting in to. For me, this was meant to be the site of my honeymoon, twice, but that still doesn’t seem to be in the cards for me as I would really need it to be in the late October timeframe… Ah well!

New to all of this? My “introduction to miles and points” book, MilesTalk: Live Your Wildest Travel Dreams Using Miles and Points is available on Amazon and at major booksellers.

I got "in the game" in 2003 and since then I've collected literally millions and millions of frequent flyer miles and hotel points. I've flown around the world in first class seats that would cost $29,000 using frequent flyer miles and a few bucks in tax. And I've stayed in some of the finest hotels - all for free! A few years ago I realized many of my friends actually thought I was paying for these!! So I started sharing my tips. It's long been a passion, but when I hosted a session on Miles and Points at this year's South by Southwest festival, my love of the game intensified and this blog was born.
